5 Spooky Holiday Movies to Watch This Winter

If you’re anything like me, you love mixing your holidays with something spooky. There’s just something about combining warm cocoa and twinkling lights with a touch of eerie that makes movie night even better. So, I put together my top 5 spooky holiday movies perfect for a cozy evening.

#1: The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

This one’s a classic and probably my favorite holiday movie with a spooky twist. Is it a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? Or both? Follow Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, as he stumbles into Christmas Town and decides he wants to bring Christmas back to his spooky home. The songs are catchy, the visuals are iconic, and the mix of holiday cheer and Halloween spirit is perfect.

#2: Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983)

Looking for something nostalgic and a little eerie? Disney’s Mickey's Christmas Carol is the one. It’s a fun take on the classic A Christmas Carol story with Scrooge McDuck as the grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge and Mickey Mouse as Bob Cratchit. The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future add just the right amount of spookiness while keeping it family friendly. This one’s a must for a little ghostly reminder of the holiday spirit.

#3: Edward Scissorhands (1990)

This is also one of my favorite holiday movies! Edward Scissorhands has all the wintry, mysterious vibes. Johnny Depp plays Edward, a man with scissors for hands who’s brought into a suburban neighborhood. As snow falls and the holidays approach, Edward’s story brings a mix of beauty, sadness, and wonder that’s perfect for a chilly evening. Plus, it’s Tim Burton, so you know it will have that signature twist.

#4: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)

This classic cartoon is a must-watch during the holiday season. It follows the Grinch, a grumpy, green creature with a heart "two sizes too small," as he schemes to steal Christmas from the Who's in Whoville. While it’s not super spooky, there’s something dark about the Grinch’s sneaky grin and the shadowy moments as he plots. The animation and narration by Boris Karloff make this version timeless and perfect for a holiday movie night with a touch of suspense.

#5: The Polar Express (2004)

The Polar Express is rated G and full of holiday wonder, but something about it is subtly eerie. The animation has this dreamlike quality and a mysterious conductor and even ghostly figures make the journey to the North Pole a little spooky.

So, those are my top 5 spooky holiday picks! Whether you’re looking for ghosts, eerie animation, or a mix of holiday cheer and mystery, these movies have you covered. What’s your favorite spooky holiday movie? Let me know in the comments, and as always, remember to keep on shivering!
